Under the Islamic Shariah, the rate for Fitra per person can be based on one of the prices of flour, dates, raisin, cheese, or barley.
The Islamic Foundation has set the Fitra at minimum Tk70 and maximum Tk2,310 for the current year.
The National Fitra Fixation Committee set the rate for Fitra at a meeting on Wednesday, presided over by committee president and senior Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Maulana Muhammad Mizanur Rahman.
Fitra, also known as Zakat al-fitr or fitrana, is compulsory charity paid by every Muslim at the end of Ramadan.

As Fitra, 1.65 kgs of flour, with a market value of Tk70 can be given to the needy.
The other options are- 3.3kgs of barley with a market value of Tk1,320, 3.3 kgs raisin with a value of Tk1,320, 3.3 kgs of dates with a value of Tk1,980, or 3.3 kgs of cheese with a value of Tk2,310.
The rates were fixed considering the maximum retail prices of abovementioned goods across Bangladesh. People of the Muslim community can choose one of those goods or its maximum market value in taka to pay Fitra.
Principal of Dhaka Alia Madrasa Professor Siraj Uddin Ahmad and Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, Maulana Muhiuddin Kasem were present at the meeting, among many others.
